PACSO: Summer Playscheme

Holiday Clubs

For many families, the school holidays are a time to relax, make memories and enjoy a break from routine. However, for families raising children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the holidays can sometimes bring additional challenges alongside the excitement.

Finding suitable childcare, maintaining routines, encouraging social interaction and balancing work commitments can become difficult during long school breaks. This is why SEND holiday clubs can play such an important role for both children and their families.

At PACSO, we understand that every child deserves the opportunity to feel included, supported and confident during the holidays. Our Summer Playscheme is designed to provide safe, welcoming and enjoyable experiences where children and young people can thrive while families receive valuable support and reassurance.

Why School Holidays Can Be Challenging for SEND Families

Many children with SEND benefit from structure and familiar routines throughout the school term. When schools close for the holidays, those routines can suddenly disappear, which may cause anxiety, emotional overwhelm or behavioural challenges for some children and young people.

Parents and carers may also face additional pressures during this time, including:

  • Finding inclusive holiday activities suitable for their child’s needs

  • Managing work and childcare responsibilities

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing during changes in routine

  • Helping children maintain social interaction and friendships

  • Preventing isolation for both children and parents

  • Balancing the needs of siblings and the wider family

For some families, mainstream holiday clubs may not provide the understanding, accessibility or support their child requires. This can leave families feeling limited in their options during the holidays.

Inclusive Activities That Make a Difference

Every child is unique, which is why our Summer Playscheme includes a wide variety of activities to suit different interests and comfort levels.

Depending on the session, activities may include:

  • Arts and crafts

  • Sports and games

  • Sensory play

  • Outdoor activities

  • Music and creative sessions

  • Social interaction activities

  • Confidence-building experiences

How PACSO Supports SEND Families

Our Summer Playscheme aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children can have fun, explore new activities and enjoy social experiences while families receive trusted support during the school holidays.
